Winter is such a fun time to focus on social emotional learning. Between snow, snowflakes, and winter holidays, there are SO many fun themes to draw on. Here’s a simple round-up of some of my favorite SEL winter resources that are available in my TPT shop!
Sensory Snow Freebie
I love making sensory snow with students! This is a great way to practice reading for meaning, following directions, and incorporating play!
SEL Monthly Themes – December – Empathy
This SEL activity is designed to teach and reinforce the concept of empathy with students through a penguin theme! It’s perfect for any winter month or during a unit studying penguins. Students make a mini-book to learn more about empathy, and complete a craftivity book where they find an empathetic response. There is also a fun pocket chart game!
SEL Monthly Themes – January – Goal Setting
This SEL activity is designed to teach and scaffold goal setting for students using snow and winter sports as a fun theme. Students learn what it means to set a goal, and practice doing so through a craftivity. Then, you get to practice how to reach a goal with a fun winter sports themed game.
Count With Me: Winter Adapted Book
If you’re working with students who are learning counting and cardinality, this book is for you! This is an engaging way to involve seasonal themes into a math goal.
Hanukkah and Kwanzaa Compare & Contrast
There are many similarities and differences between these two winter holidays. This is a great follow up activity to read alouds or YouTube videos that highlight these holidays.
Emotions Pack: Reindeer Themed
Keep the emotion identification lessons going, just add in some seasonal fun! These reindeer clip art faces help students will keep the practice going with a variety of emotion-focused activities.
Reindeer Emotions Task Cards
These task cards are PERFECT for seasonal centers or stations! These are some of my favorite SEL winter resources!
December Coping Skills Bulletin Board
My former school required a new bulletin board every month, and it got really overwhelming! I created these seasonal bulletin boards to help ease the stress and keep them meaningful, too. This December bulletin board activity focuses on goal setting and coping skills!
Snowflake SEL Boom Cards
Have you ever used Boom Cards? They are SO fun for tablets and Chromebooks in the classroom. This simple card deck allows students to practice emotion identification in a super engaging way.
Holiday Compliment Display
Tis the season for giving! This compliment display teaches the meaning behind thoughtful compliments, gives examples, and allows students to “gift” one another a compliment in an interactive display. This is my favorite SEL winter resources in my store.
Guess My Gift
This is a really fun inferencing game to play when students return from winter break! Please use this resource with care, consideration, and sensitivity. Only engage in this activity with students that you know celebrated a gift-giving holiday and received some type of gift.
